REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 10. - Grade 12 will be an added advantage. – NQF Level 2 Basic Auto-Electrical Certificate will be a strong recommendation. - Code 10 Driver’s License with valid PDP. - Knowledge of Basic Electricity: Understanding electron flow, voltage, resistance, and Ohm’s Law for troubleshooting; Auto Electrical Circuits: Building, testing, and repairing basic circuits and electrical components; Battery Systems: Testing, servicing, and diagnosing automotive batteries and related components; Wiring Systems: Working with automobile auxiliary harnesses, including identifying symbols, reading diagrams, and assembling or repairing harnesses; Engine & Electrical Components: Basic understanding of engine technology, and the removal and fitting of electrical/electronic components; Safety & Tools: Using hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment while adhering to health and safety regulations. Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude. Basic fault-finding ability. Attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure. Good communication skills. Safety-conscious and reliable. Basic knowledge of 12V and 24V auto electrical systems. – Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (must be bilingual). - Ability to follow & execute given instructions. - Good physical health, basic skills & know how of doing physical work. - Must be willing to perform overtime and standby duties. - A hard-working self-disciplined person – Two (02) years’ relevant work experience mechanical environment within Local Government Authority or similar pressurized environment.
DUTIES
-Assists the Mechanic with daily duties as instructed. -Service, identify and repair faults on electronically controlled systems such as electronic fuel injection and electric ignition. Including but not limited to: Wiring harnesses, Sensors and control systems, Lighting systems, Starter motors and alternators, Batteries and charging systems, Assist with installation and repairs of electrical components, Support diagnostics using basic testing equipment, Assist with cable routing, repairs, and component replacement. -Installing electrical equipment such as gauges, lighting, alternators and starter motors in trucks/trailers. -Installing electrically operated accessories such as radios, heating demisting equipment and driving lamps. -Use diagnostic meters, test instruments and circuit diagrams to find electrical faults. -Adjusting engine control systems and timing to make sure trucks are running at peak performance. -Test, recondition and replace faulty alternators, generators, starter motors and related items such as voltage regulators and batteries. -Using hand tools; specialized electrical tools, instruments and machines including hand drills, grinders and presses. -Soldering, repairing electrical parts like alternators and starters and also doing arc welding. -Maintain housekeeping and ensuring a clean work environment (clean in and around working area), including but not limited to sweeping, washing floors, etc. - Operational Plant and Equipment Support: Assist the mechanic with electrical inspections during scheduled maintenance. -Conduct pre-start electrical checks on fleet/plant and equipment. -Report electrical faults identified and abnormal fleet/plant and equipment behaviour. -Assist drivers/operators with basic troubleshooting. -Support fleet/plant/equipment start-up and shutdown procedures (where required). -Assist with breakdown response and repairs (on-and-off-site). -Ensure adherence to safety working procedures: -Adhere to Health & Safety Act requirements. -Follow lock-out and isolation procedures. -Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks. -Identify and report unsafe electrical conditions. -Assist with other general duties related to the role: -Operating, moving, driving fleet/plant/equipment to and from the grease pit. -Delivering and fetching fleet/plant/equipment to and from external service providers as required (where necessary or instructed) and collecting and delivery of spare parts to and from external service providers. -Perform any other related Ad Hoc tasks and duties as requested or required by management (Supervisor) from time to time.
SALARY R 174 012.00 p.a – R 193 644.00 p.a (Level 12 of a Grade 04 Local Authority)
Total package inclusive of all benefits: R 312 707.84 p.a
